Federal money will help the Parrsborough Shore Historical Society in Nova Scotia to help commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Sir Charles Tupper in 2015.

With the update of the museum in the amount of $385,000 in federal funding for the renovation of the Ottawa House By-the-Sea Museum, Tupper will be celebrated for his life of public service. He was the premier of Nova Scotia from 1864 to 1867 and also led the province into Confederation. He would later serve as the nation’s sixth prime minister but only lasted 69 days, the shortest time in office of any Canadian prime minister. He was defeated by Wilfrid Laurier’s Liberals after more than two decades of Tory rule.

Tupper was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia and bought the museum building as a summer home in 1871. It was originally built in the 1770s. The museum contains more than 450 artifacts which illustrate his life.
